A South London robber – on a day trip down to Brighton – with the intention of robbing a branch of Ladbrokes on London Road, thoughtfully left photo ID as well as the return portion of his day return ticket to West Norwood on the floor as he fled the scene of the crime.
Setting aside the truly horrendous experienceof the two staff members who believed they were being held up at gun point for the money in the till, the sheer incomptenece of this chap warms the heart. Clearly, we in Brighton and Hove should be flattered by this robbers fondness for the South Coasts greatest destination – he honoured us with a visit in 2001 and held up a branch of the Nationwide Building Society on Church Road, Hove. He bungled that too and spent 4 years at Her Majesty’s pleasure then.
Judge Paul Tain similarly rewarded him with another 4 years behind bars! It does pretty much undermine the idea that prisons are ‘schools for crminals’ as, at least in this case, what would be sufficient study time for many people to achieve a PHD, this particular thief came out as clueless as he went in! I would heartily recommend that day tripping robbers to Brighton and Hove reassess their schedules – because perhaps instead of a hurried day trip down to our city, putting unnecessary pressure on your plans which always leads to hasty and rushed decisions, they should plan a couple of nights stay, and Brighton Short Breaks can help them there – with our range of high quality and centrally located self catering flats!
