An Brighton and Hove Council prides itself on its forward looking and responsible attitude to the civic services it provides to its residents – and its latest introduction certainly underlines that committment.
Rick Thompson,a Brighton resident and a Applications Designer spotted a fantastic opportunity to harness the whizz benefits of the iPhone and in so doing provide a major benefit to the city’s residents throughout – and potentially every other city in the UK.
He has teamed up with the council to provide a real time application, accessible on your iPhone which will provide you with up to date bus arrival and departure information. In a long queue in MArks and SPencers and want to knwo when you next bus is due? Sitting on your sofa in Hove wondering if you can get to Churchill Square before the shops shut? Then just tap on your iPhone and you’ll know if theres a bus just about to arrive that will take out all the guess work and the wasted hanging around at a bus stop for a bus that , seemingly, never comes.
At the moment this is great if you live in Brighton and have an iPhone – but if this launch is successful then the other phone platforms will certainly copy it, and if it works for Brighton and Hove then other councils will follow suit.
This is great news for us all – because it makes the bus system much more accessible to everyone with a mobile phone – and that could mean less car journeys and greater profitablilty for the bus companies – which, in turn, means more buses and therefore greener city centres!
Brighton Short Breaks certainly hopes the public take up of this technology encourages more of this kind of innovation!
Visitors to Brighton and Hove Self Catering flats shuld be sure to be bring their iPhone with them and benefit from the Councils latest innovation!
